Splend, Karmo and Simba have current Australian pages explicitly promoting rideshare vehicles; ordinary rental brands are not automatically valid for platform work. Compare the whole contract—term, kilometres, insurance excess, maintenance, downtime and exit—not a weekly headline. Confirm the exact car with Uber or DiDi and obtain written permission for fleet or commercial use.
What counts as a confirmed option
Splend describes subscription plans for rideshare drivers, Karmo advertises cars it calls Uber and DiDi ready, and Simba has an Australian rideshare rental page. These are first-party product statements, not independent endorsements or guarantees for every city and car.
Hertz and other mainstream brands are not included merely because they rent cars. A standard rental page does not prove permission for paid passenger work. Uber says only some rental vehicles may be eligible.

Provider comparison
Availability and terms change by city. No supplier price is reproduced because a written quote is more useful than a dated headline.
| Provider and evidence | Structure and best-fit use case | Checks before signing |
|---|---|---|
| Splend — confirmed rideshare specialist | Advertises Flexi-try and Flexi-own, with vehicle, registration, rideshare loss-and-damage cover, maintenance and servicing described as inclusions. | Ask for total payments, contribution, ownership transfer, kilometres, tyres, excess, early exit and replacement-car terms. Read the cover terms. |
| Karmo — confirmed rideshare subscription/rental page | Advertises Uber- and DiDi-ready vehicles and no application or joining fees. | Confirm city, vehicle, term, bond, kilometres, tyres, insurance, extra drivers, early return and accident downtime. Platform-ready remains a vendor claim. |
| Simba Car Hire — confirmed Australian rideshare page | Advertises rideshare rental for Uber and DiDi. | Request the rideshare agreement. Check city, bond, kilometres, commercial-use permission, insurance, servicing, roadside help, replacement, approval and returns. |
| Mainstream rental without rideshare terms — not confirmed | An ordinary rental is not evidence of permission to carry paying passengers. | Use only if the provider, contract, insurer and platform allow it. Hertz’s general Australian page does not establish this. |

Turn the weekly quote into a comparable cost
Calculate total cash paid over the likely term: contribution, bond, fees, kilometre overage, optional cover, excess reduction and end amount. Separate refundable money. Add energy, cleaning, parking, tyres if excluded and unavailable hours. For an EV, include charging equipment and displaced work.
Compare purchasing over the same period, including interest, registration, insurance, servicing, tyres, repairs and depreciation. A subscription may reduce administration but impose kilometre and exit costs. At /driver-hub/tools, enter conservative, expected and high-work cases.

Insurance, fleet use and downtime questions
CTP, platform protection, rental damage waiver and comprehensive rideshare insurance are not interchangeable. Ask who insures the car, which terms govern, excesses, named drivers, permitted platforms and cover while waiting, approaching pickup, carrying a passenger and driving privately.
Clarify glass, tyres, underbody, flood, charging equipment, towing and income exclusions. Ask who pays during repair and whether replacement is guaranteed or subject to availability. Send the exact car and city to each platform; repeat every check after a substitution.

Who rental can suit—and who should pause
Rental can suit a new driver testing demand and hours, someone without purchase finance, or a driver valuing bundled registration and maintenance. Pause if the term exceeds your plan, kilometres are too low, ownership transfer is unclear or the excess is unaffordable. Established high-kilometre drivers should compare ownership carefully. Weekly payments are not automatically fully tax-deductible.

Common questions
Which Australian rideshare rental providers were verified?
Current first-party pages were found for Splend, Karmo and Simba. This does not mean every car, city, contract or driver is eligible. Obtain a quote and platform confirmation.
Can I use an ordinary Hertz or airport rental for Uber?
Do not assume so. A general rental page does not establish permission for paid passenger work. Use only a product whose written rental and insurance terms permit rideshare and whose exact vehicle is accepted by the platform.
Is Splend Flexi-own the same as a car loan?
Splend describes its arrangement as a subscription agreement rather than finance or a loan. Read the current contract to understand the ownership pathway, total payments, transfer point, early exit and consequences of default before comparing it with finance.
What should I compare besides the weekly payment?
Compare total cost, upfront money, kilometre overage, insurance and excess, permitted platforms and drivers, servicing, tyres, accident replacement, downtime, exit costs and any ownership amount.
