ALITAX — BAS Lodge

How to choose a rideshare accountant or online tax service

Choose a rideshare accountant by checking registration, service scope, how every platform is captured, GST and BAS experience, pricing shown before payment, amendment policy and support. Automated imports are convenient but do not replace complete records. Ask providers to explain exclusions and responsibility rather than relying on a generic maximum-refund promise.

A transparent comparison framework

Start with the outcome required: GST registration, a quarterly BAS, an annual sole-trader return, advice on mixed delivery and passenger work, or a correction to earlier reporting. A tax agent and a BAS agent do not necessarily have the same permitted service scope. The ATO links consumers to the Tax Practitioners Board register; check the individual or entity and the service needed rather than relying only on a logo.

Then test data completeness. A polished import for one platform is not useful if income from three other apps is omitted. Ask whether the system imports gross fares, fees, tips, incentives and adjustments, or merely reads bank deposits. Also ask how manual statements, vehicle percentages and GST-free expenses are reviewed.

Selection questionGood evidenceWarning sign
Is the provider appropriately registered?Current TPB register entry for the relevant serviceUnverifiable badge or vague 'tax expert' wording
How are platforms handled?Named verified imports plus a documented manual routeClaim that bank deposits equal total business income
What is included?Written scope for BAS, annual return, schedules and follow-upA headline fee with undefined extras
How is mixed use reviewed?Questions, calculations and retained working papersEvery receipt treated as 100% business
What happens after lodgment?Clear correction, amendment and support processNo stated responsibility or contact path

Applying the framework to ALITAX

ALITAX is both the publisher of this guide and a provider, so its service statements should be read as first-party disclosures rather than an independent ranking. Its current workflow verifies automated statement import for Uber and DiDi only. Drivers should manually include or supply Uber Eats, DoorDash, Amazon Flex and other courier income when it is outside those verified imports.

For an annual tax service, ALITAX presents a personalised fee before payment rather than publishing one fixed figure that may conflict with the driver's actual scope. For BAS, the current new-customer offer is the first eligible quarter free, followed by $50 including GST per quarter. Eligibility and terms matter, and existing grandfathered free entitlements are preserved. These are dated service terms checked on 18 September 2026, not a claim that every driver qualifies or that prices cannot change.

How to discuss competitors without stale claims

Accounting Times reported that TaxLeopard acquired Airtax in November 2023. That establishes a dated transaction, not the current availability, pricing or migration state of airtax.io or airtax.com.au. Likewise, a search result or an unreachable page is not enough to label a provider closed. The current status of RideShareTax also requires direct verification.

Compare a competitor using the same questions applied to ALITAX: TPB registration where required, exact service scope, current statement integrations, manual data path, fee presented for the driver's facts, support and privacy terms. Do not repeat historical user numbers, partnerships, artificial-intelligence plans or future profitability comments as present-day product capabilities.

Questions to ask before paying

A short pre-payment exchange can prevent a quarter of missing income or duplicated expenses. Describe every work type and platform, whether GST registration already exists, the period being lodged, vehicle ownership, other sole-trader activity and any prior late BAS. Ask the provider to confirm what it will prepare and what remains the driver's responsibility.

  • Will you reconcile gross platform income to deposits and explain any difference?
  • Which statements import automatically, and how do I provide every other platform?
  • Will you review current and projected GST turnover if I deliver only?
  • How will you document car-method choice and mixed private use?
  • Does the fee include GST, business schedules, amendments and ATO follow-up, or are these separate?
  • When will I see the final scope and fee, and what happens if my records are incomplete?

Common questions

Does automated import mean I do not need platform statements?

No. Keep the original statements and reconcile imports. Any platform outside a verified import route must still be included manually; automation does not change the tax obligation.

How much does an ALITAX annual tax return cost?

ALITAX's current approach is to show a personalised fee before payment, because scope differs. Review that displayed fee and included work rather than relying on an older fixed-price reference.

What is the current ALITAX BAS offer?

For a new eligible offer, the first eligible quarter is free and later quarters are $50 including GST. Eligibility and terms apply, while grandfathered free entitlements are preserved.

Are Airtax or RideShareTax closed?

This research does not establish that. A 2023 report confirms TaxLeopard acquired Airtax, but current domain and product status require direct verification. RideShareTax status is also unverified.
