Use official store finders to shortlist a 7-Eleven, McCafe or bp Wild Bean, then confirm that location’s live hours, parking and amenities before relying on it. Local cafes may offer a better sit-down break. If you feel drowsy, stop safely and sleep or rest—coffee only offers temporary alertness.
Pick the stop for the job
A useful stop is not necessarily the closest coffee machine. Between jobs, a quick forecourt stop may be enough for water and a short walk. After several hours, a legal parking space and somewhere away from the driver’s seat matter more. Before a regional run, identify a primary stop and a backup so a closed counter does not become a reason to keep driving tired.
The official McDonald’s locator can filter for McCafe, Drive Thru and 24 Hours. The 7-Eleven and bp Wild Bean pages help identify their respective locations. Those are discovery tools, not promises: a fuel site may operate while its coffee counter or facilities follow different hours, and an inner-city store may have no customer parking.
| Option | Best use case | Check before diverting |
|---|---|---|
| 7-Eleven | Fast coffee, water or packaged food between nearby jobs | Live store hours, safe legal parking, toilets and current coffee availability |
| McCafe | A longer break where a participating restaurant has seating or drive-through | Use McCafe and hours filters; verify dining-room hours and parking restrictions |
| bp Wild Bean Cafe | A combined fuel and coffee stop on a route | Confirm the selected bp actually has Wild Bean and whether cafe hours match fuel hours |
| Independent cafe | A deliberate off-peak sit-down break and local food choice | Current map listing, kitchen hours, queue, parking limits and whether takeaway is available |
| Rest area | Fatigue break when buying coffee is not the goal | Safe access, operating information and local signs; do not assume commercial amenities |

A two-minute stop check
While parked, inspect the official listing rather than relying on an old search-result hours panel. Check the arrival side of the road, entry and exit, parking time limit and whether you can leave without an unsafe turn. For a local cafe, call when a break depends on a toilet, seating, an accessible entrance or late trading.
Do not queue across a service-station entrance, stop in a loading zone or handle the finder while moving. Save likely stops before the shift or ask a passenger to navigate. App and website location permissions can be convenient, but a suburb or postcode search is a reasonable alternative when you prefer not to share precise location.
- Choose a stop that adds a real break, not just extra kilometres.
- Keep water in the vehicle so a closed cafe does not remove the basic option.
- Treat opening hours and amenities as location-specific and changeable.
- Budget ordinary shift coffee and food as private spending in the usual case; buying them while working does not by itself turn them into deductible costs.

Coffee is not the fatigue plan
Queensland StreetSmarts calls caffeine a temporary solution and says sleep is the only fix for tiredness. NSW guidance says fatigue affects concentration, judgement and reaction time, and tells drivers who notice warning signs to park safely and take a break or nap. Yawning, poor concentration, sore eyes, slow reactions, missed signs or lane difficulty are reasons to stop—not reasons to order a stronger drink.
Build breaks into the shift before those signs appear. NSW recommends regular breaks and lists rest areas, petrol stations, parks, country towns and Driver Reviver sites as possibilities. A cafe can be the setting for a break, but the purchase itself is not the recovery. If you remain sleepy after stopping, do not resume driving merely because an app is busy.

Common questions
Are all 7-Eleven or bp locations open 24 hours?
Do not assume so. Check the selected location’s current official listing, and remember that fuel, shop, cafe and facility hours may differ.
Can I filter specifically for McCafe?
The McDonald’s Australia locator lists a McCafe filter alongside options such as 24 Hours and Drive Thru. Confirm the individual restaurant details before travelling.
Will coffee make it safe to drive when I am tired?
No. Government road-safety guidance describes caffeine as temporary and sleep as the only way to overcome tiredness. Pull over safely and rest.
Is coffee bought during a delivery shift automatically tax deductible?
No. Ordinary coffee and meals are generally private spending. A work shift or app receipt does not by itself change that character; seek advice for unusual circumstances.
